Biography

Dana M. Baird

Dana M. Baird

The child of creative parents, a whole bunch of muses started whispering in my ear at a young age. By the time I was three years old I wanted to be an artist. I started storytelling when I was five, and had an awesome elementary teacher who discovered that letting me write stories kept me occupied and out of trouble. I started singing in junior high, and added costuming to my list of ambitions when I was sixteen (although that didn’t work out too well for my mother’s sewing machine at first).

I studied Anthropology and Art History at Macalester College and later completed my B.A. with honors in Studio Art at the University of Minnesota. Since then, I spend my time juggling my creative pursuits.  I continue to paint and participate in art shows throughout the year. My first three novels were YA fantasy adventures, all picked up and published by a small press.  I also perform as a stilt walking jester out at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Lately the muses have swung me back toward costuming, and I hope to post more about those projects too.

I currently live in Minnesota with two insane cats and one very patient husband, Eric Clark.

Artist’s Statement:

“In my work, I use the language of color and shape to celebrate the grandeur of this world and the universe that expands around it. I invite viewers to re-examine the beauty that surrounds them and explore the aesthetic freedom that can be found beyond familiar boundaries.”
